Rotorua Once Again Home to NZ's Best Toastie!
In a competition first, Rotorua chef Rich Johns from Okere Falls Store, Cafe & Craft Beer Garden has taken out the Great NZ Toastie Takeover Award for the second time!
Johns’ winning ‘Figgy In The Middle’ beat out 169 other entries from across the country, with its innovative combination of dill pickle cheesecake whip, Swiss cheese, sliced figs, Vandy’s streaky bacon, toasted walnuts, rocket, McClure's pickles, blue cheese and a generous drizzle of chilli honey.
Rotorua’s Capers Cafe champion of the people!
In clean-sweep for Rotorua, this years’s winner of the Great NZ Toastie Takeover People’s Choice Award is Caper’s Café & Store. Created by apprentice chefs Zion and Jesse, the toastie features hoisin glazed pork belly with sweet chilli + garlic, McClure’s Sweet & Spicy pickles, crispy fried shallots, mozzarella, tasty cheese, spring onion, red onion + miso mayonnaise on garlic-buttered Turkish sesame bread.
